What to Expect
Recruitment events allow you to experience a sample of the activities we host throughout the semester. They allow you to meet our members and to see if our organization is something you would like to be a part of. You will likely recognize many of our members from your classes and other organizations on the LSU campus, so it is very rare for a potential member to come to an event and not know anyone at all.
What Recruiting Events Should You Attend?
We encourage you to come to as many recruitment events as possible. These events serve two purposes: For you to become familiar with our fraternity, and for our members to become familiary with you.
Who Is Able to Pledge?
All undergraduate and gradute students currently in or seeking admission into the E.J. Ourso College of Business with a graduation date of Fall 2013 or later. Our fraternity looks for involved students that are positive and enthusiastic. A 2.50 GPA is highly reccommended.
What to Expect while Pledging?
From the potential members who participate in our recruiting events, our chapter selects who will be offered a bid for membership. If selected, you will begin your pledge semester which continues for approximately 10 weeks, completing before finals. During this period, you will become familiar with the fraternity and its members. The pledge class will emulate the chapter by organizing and hosting events including:
- Professional Events – The pledge class as a whole will coordinate at least one professional event (speaker, corporate tour, etc) of their choice.
- Community Service – The pledge class as a whole will plan a community service project of their choice.
- Fundraising Event - The pledge class is expected to support itself, like the chapter does, through fundraising. Fundraising will cover expenses incurred by the pledge class while putting on events.
- Social Event – The pledge class plans a social gathering that takes place near the end of the semester to celebrate their achievements.
What Kind of Time Commitment Is This?
The time commitment is largely based on how efficiently the pledge and pledge class can operate. Most of our pledges have maintained their grades as well as continued to be employed.
Seems a Little Overwhelming?
The process can seem a little overwhelming at first but the fraternity is there to help the pledge class succeed. The pledge program is very structured and spread evenly throughout the 10 weeks. The effort is worth the reward at the end of the pledging process and many of our members have found their closest friends through Delta Sigma Pi.
